As a league, Wilshire Riverside Little League (WRLL) strives to make sure that the regular season offers as much opportunity for all players to experience baseball in a fair and equitable manner. When it comes to All-Star teams, WRLL wants to field the most competitive team it can for the All-Star tournament.
WRLL believes that it is important to include the players in the league in the selection process. All players need to have an opportunity to make the team regardless of: popularity, school affiliation, parental influence, manager prejudice, or because their parent is a WRLL Board Member.
Tournament Teams and All-Stars require a significant time investment for families, players and coaches. Please consider your summer vacation/camp schedule carefully. To be eligible, your player must be made available to participate in all scheduled practices, scrimmages, and tournament games.
Details for the postseason team selection process can be found below. If you have any further questions please reach out to the League President ([email protected]) and/or Player Agent ([email protected])
What are postseason teams?
The league will select players from across the Minors and Majors teams to assemble three Tournament Teams and two Honors Teams. These five teams will represent WRLL in tournaments following the conclusion of the regular season.
What are the differences between Tournament Teams and Honors Teams?
Tournament Teams compete in the District 1 Tournament against teams from our neighboring District 1 Little Leagues (Hollywood Rose City, North Portland, Parkside, Scappoose, St. Helens). If they win the tournament they can advance on to the State Tournament against the winners of the other districts in Oregon. Tournament teams are the most competitive postseason teams.
There are three Tournament Teams, one for each the following age groups:
10yrs-12yrs / 9yrs-11yrs / 8yrs-10yrs
Honors Teams compete in a tournament against teams from around the Portland area. Honors teams provide an opportunity for kids who are passionate about baseball to get experience playing in a competitive tournament and further develop.
There are two Honors Teams, one for each the following age groups:
10yrs-12yrs / 8yrs-10yrs
Which of the teams is my player eligible for?
Eligibility is primarily determined by the player’s “Little League Age”, which is defined as the age of the player on August 31 of the current year.
For example, a player that is currently 10 but will turn 11 on or before August 31 is considered 11 years old and is eligible for 10-12 AS, 9-11 TT, and 10-12 Honors.
You can also verify a players age here (select Little League Baseball):

What’s the difference between an All-Star Team and a Tournament Team?
The 10-12 Tournament Team is officially the league’s All-Star team. However all three Tournament teams are typically referred to as All-Star teams.
Where will these tournaments be held?
The District 1 Tournaments will be hosted by one of the leagues within the district. The hosting league is generally rotated from year to year. It can be as close as our own James Combs Field or as far as St. Helens.
The Honors Tournament is hosted in the Portland Metro area, often in or around Beaverton.
When will these tournaments be held?
The District 1 Tournaments are typically held in late June to early July.
The Honors Tournaments are typically held in mid June.
How far can the postseason teams advance?
10-12 All-Stars can advance to the State Tournament (Mid/Late July), then the Regional Tournament (Early August), then the Little League World Series (Mid/Late August).
9-11 TT & 8-10 TT can advance to the State Tournament (Mid/Late July).
10-12 Honors & 8-10 Honors do not advance further than the Honors Tournament.
How are teams formed?
Regular season coaches will vote on the 12-player roster for each of the three postseason Tournament Teams (8-10 TT, 9-11 TT, and 10-12 All Stars). The coaches of the Honors Teams will assemble their teams from available players.
Can players vote?
Players are encouraged to vote, but this is optional. Their votes will help inform the postseason selection process and their input is highly valued by the coaches and the league.
How are coaches selected for postseason teams?
The WRLL Board selects postseason coaches. All regular season coaches have the ability to sign up for consideration, based on interest and availability.
How are player votes cast?
All player voting will take place through an online form that will be emailed to all Minors & Majors families. Player voting typically takes place in Mid May.
What is the time commitment for postseason players?
Postseason players can begin practicing as soon as the regular season ends for their team.
Players on Tournament Teams should anticipate practicing or playing a scrimmage every day (sometimes twice a day) until the conclusion of the tournament. Scrimmages may take place at fields across the Portland Metro area.
Players on Honors Teams will practice once a day during the week leading up to the start of the Honors Tournament.
What uniform do players wear?
The league will provide uniforms for all postseason teams (jersey, hat, belt, socks).
Is there an additional cost to play on a postseason team?
The league charges Tournament Team participants $150-$200 to offset uniform costs, entry fees, umpire fees, etc.. Scholarships are available to families in need.
There is no cost to play for Honors Teams.
How much will my player be on the field?
Minimum playing time requirement is 1 at bat and zero innings in the field at each game (i.e. not all players will always play in the field, but everyone will get at least one at bat).
How is all this different from the Tournament of Champions?
The Tournament of Champions (TOC) is a tournament that all players will take part in with their regular season teams. They will compete against other WRLL teams and teams from neighboring leagues. It will take place in early June, after the regular season scheduled games are concluded. When a team is eliminated (or wins!) their regular season is officially complete.
